A Few Tips For Getting To London From Your Heathrow UK Flights

Most people arrive in Heathrow Airport when they are taking UK flights to visit London or making a connection to travel elsewhere in Europe or go to Ireland. Heathrow is UKs only hub airport and is undergoing renovations in Terminal 2 that started in 2010.

One of the great things about this airport is that there are plenty of signs and indicators that make it incredibly easy to navigate. When you are coming from outside the UK you will need to be prepared to spend about forty minutes getting through the checkpoints. If it is a holiday or weekend the wait will be longer, so keep your paperback or magazine at the ready and have your documents on hand as you work your way through the passport control. There are two lines at the control point, be sure to get in the right line.

When you are entering the UK there are some foods that may not be brought in with you. Meat and milk are two of the items that you will need to dispose of before you leave the plane. It will also be important to have your passport ready when you get to passport control so that the line will move smoothly.

It will take about forty minutes to get through all of the checkpoints when you land. You will be going to passport control first, then baggage claim, then customs. Everyone is very nice and courteous but the lines can be long and if you have been flying for several hours you may want to take some time to get a cold drink at the dining center.

The transportation at the airport is amazing and very enjoyable. Getting to any of the transportation is very easy, just go to Terminal 1 and 3. You will find that public transportation is much easier for getting around London than a private car. But, if you are going to let a car be sure that you ask for the daily "congestion fee" for each day that you will have the car. There is a congestion fee charged for almost all of London and the fee can add up quickly.

The tube is a great experience. If you are used to riding public transit at your home, you will find that London Transit is very different. It's a wonderful experience, easy to get to, and stops at all of the great places you will want to visit. In addition, hopping the London Tube to Paddington only takes 15-20 minutes. This is a great way to unwind from the plane ride and begin your vacation early.
